Master of Statistics (MOS Statistics)
 

The Master of Statistics is a two-year curriculum program that aims to prepare the students to meet the needs of industry and government for statistical personnel at the supervisory level. The students are provided with a sound understanding of statistical concepts and methods and their applications.

 

Admission Requirements

 

Application for admissions must be filed with the Director of Graduate Studies at least one month before the start of the registration period of the proposed term of entrance. 

  1. An applicant must possess a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from the University or from recognized institutions of higher learning.

  2. An applicant must have high quality and integrity of intellect.  These qualifications shall be determined through examination of undergraduate credentials and interview with the applicant.

  3. An applicant must have adequate background up to and including integral calculus.

  4. An applicant must pass an admission examination on basic university mathematics up to calculus or pass Statistics 100.  However, this requirement may be waived for graduates of B.S. Statistics, Mathematics, or Engineering.

  5. Non-statistics major will be required to take Statistics 195.

Graduation Requirements

  1. Completion of all academic requirements leading to the degree.

  2. Passing required and elective courses with a weighted average of “2.0” or better.

  3. Residence of at least one full academic year before granting of the degree.

  4. Plan A: submission of a satisfactory Master’s report on the special problem (Stat 298) worked on by the student and successful defense in an oral examination.

  5. Plan B: passing a written comprehensive examination in the following areas:

                 Stat 221 Introductory Probability

                 Stat 222 Introduction to Statistical Inference

                 Stat 223 Applied Regression Analysis

                 Stat 224 Experimental Designs

                 Stat 250 Sampling Designs

 

        Failure at a second try shall bar the student permanently from the MOS program.
